World Youth Day XXVI

6th - 23rd August 2011, Madrid, Spain

In 2011 Brentwood Catholic Youth Service will be leading a group of young people on pilgrimage to Madrid for the 26th World Youth Day.

We will join millions of other young Catholics from around the world in a fortnight-long celebration of life and faith culminating in an awe-inspiring Mass with the Pope.

The Madrid World Youth Day trip will be approx 6th – 23rd August 2011, and is open to anyone who will be at the end of school year 12 or above when we travel. It is a trip for young people and young adults, and we are open to taking around 150 - 200 young people from across the Diocese.

Three years from travel, it is hard to predict an accurate cost, but it would be fair to budget for about £900 to cover travel, coaches, hotel, World Youth Day registration and insurance. The World Youth Day trip includes a stay with a host family, and then a hotel in or very near Madrid for easy access to World Youth Day events.

Some early advice

August in Madrid is hot, and there will be huge crowds! The trip is reasonably physically demanding. Also, be aware that if you are expecting A or AS level results in 2011 we will be away at the time they are published (presuming exam arrangements remain as they are now).

The travel to Spain is likely to be by P&O ferry, with 1,000 young people and young adults from across England and Wales, travelling overnight Portsmouth to Bilbao. You will have a cabin on board!
